Praslin is the second largest island of the Seychelles archipelago, lying 44 kilometers (27 miles) northeast of Mahé, the main ilsand. With a small population of 6,500 inhabitants, it is the perfect place to get away from turmoil.
The island is famous for its beaches, among the most wonderful on earth (Anse Lazio has been voted world’s most beautiful beach several times), its unique forests that shelter animal and vegetal species that exist nowhere else, such as The coco de mer, a Seychelles’ endemic and surprising coconut, and birds like the Seychelles’ black parrot or the Seychelles’ bulbul.
Baie Sainte-Anne and Grand Anse are Praslin’s two main districts and there dwells the largest part of the population. These two cities are the island’s entry points, you can either take the plane (with air Seychelles) that lands in Praslin’s airport next to Grand Anse, or the boat (Cat coco, four coconuts in creole) that arrives in Baie Sainte Anne.
These two transports will also enable you to visit other island with Praslin as your basis: Aride, Chauve-souris, Cousin (wildlife park island, with the possibility of guided excursions), Cousine, Curieuse (with its marine national park, a great place for ecotourism), Félicité, Grande Soeur, Ile Cocos, La Digue (marvellous beaches and bicycle rides), Mahé (the main island), St Pierre.
On Praslin itself, you will find various activities, such as visiting the Vallée de Mai (a UNESCO World heritage site, home of the Seychelles’ Coco de Mer), renting a bicycle to visit the island, fishing (with the possibility of renting a boat to do so), hikes and guided visits, sorkelling in the exceptional water of the Indian ocean, and of course, Praslin’s dreamlike beaches.
